2013 fruit workshop
presentation descriptionsSweet Cherries
Greg Lang Sweet cherry production has been rising at a rapid pace over the past decade all over the world. Strong demand is being met with increased efficiencies made possible by new rootstocks, new varieties, new production systems, and new strategies to reduce climatic risks and increase premium fruit production. Growing Tree Fruits in High Tunnels Greg Lang Growing fruit trees in protected environments such as high tunnels can provide production consistency for high value markets, reduced climatic risks, and high quality fruit. However, it requires a detailed knowledge of fruit tree production strategies to extract the most value for the increased initial orchard investment. Orchard Irrigation Equipment Craig Pisarkiewicz I will discuss different kinds of products for orchard irrigation use; including dripperlines, microsprinklers, valves, controllers, and pump stations. Orchard Irrigation Systems-Drip Irrigation Designs Craig Pisarkiewicz I will discuss different kinds of products for orchard drip and microsprinkler systems; including determining how much water you need, and sizing of pumps, dripperlines, and valves. |

Greg has traveled to all continents except Antarctica to speak and consult on cherry research and high tunnel fruit production and has authored more than 100 research and industry articles on cherries. In 2005, American Fruit Grower magazine listed him among their 100 Innovative Horticulturists of the Past 125 Years.
